Due to the non-ferrous nature of the marine station infrastructure we limit the influence of external EMFs so that the purpose-built Helmholtz coils offer a working area in a uniform magnetic field that is predicted around offshore renewable energy devices (e.g. windfarms). Within the facility we maintain three separate EMF generating devices to allow us the ability to research marine species of various sizes and electromagnetic field strengths.
